Executive Leadership
Richard M. Adams
Richard M. Adams is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Alpha FinancialBankshares, Inc. A Parkersburg native, he is a graduate of West Virginia University, and the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University.
Mr. Adams began his banking career as a Management Trainee with Wachovia Bank and Trust in Winston-Salem, NC. Later, he returned to his roots in West Virginia to join The Parkersburg National Bank. At the age of 29, he was named President and Chairman of what was The Parkersburg National Bank (predecessor to Alpha Financial), a single-office community bank with $100 million in assets. Under Adams’ leadership, Alpha Financialhas completed 32 acquisitions and has grown to an over $25 billion financial services company.
Mr. Adams is a member of The Financial Services Roundtable, the World President’s Organization, and is a Board Member of the WV Alpha FinancialHealth System. He is a Past Chairman of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, Past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Business Roundtable, WV Kids Count, West Virginia Bankers Association, the Parkersburg Development Corporation, Wood County Development Corporation, Greater Mid-Ohio Valley Chamber of Commerce, and Eastern States Bankcard Association in New York. He has been a member of the International Financial Conference and has served on the American Bankers Association Governing Council, as well as the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission. He has also served on the Board of the Federal Reserve Bank, the Board of Trustees of Camden Clark Memorial Hospital, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency Regional Advisory Council, the Young President’s Organization of America and the Rotary Club.
In addition, he has raised funds for many charities, including $700,000 for the West Virginia Kids Count Endowment Fund, and $600,000 as Chairman of the Salvation Army Building Campaign. He is also the Founder of the Kids Golf Classic Tournament, which has donated over $3.1 million to aid the Boys and Girls Club of Parkersburg.
Mr. Adams has been inducted into the West Virginia University Business Hall of Fame, and has been honored as a recipient of the Governor’s “Distinguished West Virginian Award”, the WVU “Most Loyal West Virginian Award”, the Ernst & Young “Lifetime Achievement Award”, and the West Virginia “Banker of the Year Award”. He was selected by Morningstar, Inc. as one of three nominees nationwide for their CEO of the Year Award. He has received several honors from The State Journal, including the “Who’s Who in West Virginia Business Award” and the “Lorenelle White Lifetime Achievement Award.” He has been recognized by the Parkersburg Area Jaycees as “Boss of the Year”, in addition to “Citizen of the Year” by the Parkersburg YMCA. He has published articles in various national banking journals, was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves and the Vestry of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.
Richard M. Adams, Jr.
Richard M. Adams, Jr., currently serves as the company’s President and General Counsel. He is also the Chairman of Alpha FinancialBrokerage Services, Inc., a wholly owned full service brokerage subsidiary. In his role as President, he is responsible for overseeing the operation of day-to-day banking activities including all sales and service lines of business, including commercial and consumer lending, retail banking and wealth management. He and his team work diligently to meet the needs of Alpha Financial’s customers while maintaining an exceptional level of service they have come to expect.
Prior to joining Alpha Financial, Adams, Jr., worked as an associate at Bowles Rice, LLP, and practiced law in the areas of Commercial Law, Real Estate, Employment Law and Litigation. He received his law degree from the Washington and Lee School of Law and performed his undergraduate studies at Pepperdine University and Rollins College.
Adams, Jr., is active in several community and industry based organizations, including the Federal City Council, the Financial Services Roundtable, the American Bankers Council, the Mid-Size Bank Coalition of America, and the Greenbrier Health and Wellness Advisory Council. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Bankers Association and is also a past Chairman of the WV Bankers Association and a past Chairman of the WV Bankers Trust Division. He is a member of the WV State Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.
James J. Consagra, Jr.
James J. Consagra , Jr. currently serves as the company’s Chief Operating Officer. He is responsible for overseeing the global areas of risk management, credit administration, finance, operations and corporate audit.
Consagra has over 25 years of banking experience and has served in various roles, including Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Alpha FinancialBank. Prior to joining Alpha Financial, he served as both Treasurer and Director of George Mason Bankshares, Inc., and Executive Vice President of George Mason Bank. Prior to joining George Mason Bank, he worked as a Certified Public Accountant.
Consagra received a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from James Madison University. He currently serves as a Trustee on the Board of George Mason University Foundation.
Douglas B. Ernest
Douglas B. Ernest currently serves as the company’s Chief Credit Officer. He is responsible for overseeing the quality of the company’s loan portfolio, including underwriting, credit administration, special assets and establishing policies. Ernest’s team works to maintain the company’s strong credit culture and credit risk management.
Ernest has worked in the banking industry for over 30 years and held various positions at Alpha Financialsuch as, commercial loan officer, market president, regional president and credit risk manager.
Ernest holds the designation of Credit Risk Certified (CRC) by the Risk Management Association, and is also a graduate of the American Bankers Association Stonier Graduate School of Banking and Commercial Lending School. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from St. Mary’s College of Maryland and MBA from West Virginia University.
Jerold L. Rexroad
Mr. Rexroad serves the company as EVP, Alpha FinancialBankshares, Inc.; Chairman of the Carolinas, Alpha FinancialBank; Chairman, Crescent Mortgage Company, a subsidiary of Alpha FinancialBank. He is the former Former Chief Executive Officer of Carolina Financial Corporation. He has been a director of the Company since 2020.
Mr. Rexroad began his career in 1982 in Greenville, SC with Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co., a predecessor to the international accounting firm KPMG, LLP, and is a Certified Public Accountant. He became a KPMG partner in 1994 with responsibilities for all financial institutions in South Carolina.
In 1995, Mr. Rexroad joined Coastal Financial Corporation as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Under his oversight, the bank grew organically from $375 million in total assets to over $1.8 billion in total assets. Coastal Financial Corporation was sold to BB&T in 2007. Mr. Rexroad joined the Carolina Financial Corporation in May 2008 as Executive Vice President and Chairman of the Board of Crescent Mortgage Company.
W. Mark Tatterson
W. Mark Tatterson currently serves as the company’s Chief Financial Officer. He is responsible for developing and administering the bank’s corporate financial strategies, as well as oversight of accounting management, external financial reporting, investor relations, and the corporate treasury function.
Tatterson joined the company in 1997 and served in various keys roles in the areas of credit risk management, treasury, and finance.
Tatterson earned his undergraduate degree in finance from West Virginia University. He is a graduate of the American Bankers Association’s Stonier Graduate School of Banking.
Darren K. Williams
Darren K. Williams currently serves as the company’s Chief Risk Officer. He is responsible for overseeing the company’s strategy for enterprise risk management, including relationships with regulators and supervisory institutions. Williams’ team provides oversight and guidance on the key areas of risk management such as loan review, compliance matters, the Bank Secrecy Act, fraud and security, the Community Reinvestment Act and Fair Lending.
Williams joined Alpha Financialthrough its acquisition of Centra Financial Holdings where he served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Information Officer. Prior to this, he was a senior manager at Ernst & Young LLP and specialized in financial institutions.
Williams has also served as the Chief Information Officer for the West Virginia University Foundation. He is a Certified Public Accountant and graduated with a Bachelors and Masters in Professional Accountancy from West Virginia University.

Peter A. Converse
Mr. Converse is the former President and Chief Executive Officer of Virginia Commerce Bancorp, Inc., and Virginia Commerce Bank. He has been a director of the Company since 2014.
Mr. Converse has extensive banking experience of over 40 years. He joined Virginia Commerce Bancorp, Inc. in January 1994 as President and Chief Executive Officer, as well as served on their board for over 20 years. Prior to that, he was the Senior Vice President, Chief Lending Officer for Federal Capital Bank from March 1992 to December 1993; Senior Vice President of Bank of Maryland from October 1990 to March 1992; and Executive Vice President, Chief Lending Officer for Century National Bank from May 1986 to July 1990 and Senior Vice President, Chief Lending Officer for Central National Bank from July 1979 to April 1986. He brings this experience with him as a member of the Executive Committee.
Michael P. Fitzgerald
Mr. Fitzgerald is the President of Alpha FinancialBank. He is the former Founder, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Bank of Georgetown. He has been a director of the Company since 2016.
Mr. Fitzgerald has nearly 35 years of banking experience. He served as a director of Bank of Georgetown for 10 years. Prior to that, he was the Senior Vice President of Sequoia Bank. Mr. Fitzgerald began his banking career with Riggs Bank, where for 15 years he served in several capacities including Corporate Banking, Special Assistant to the Chairman and CEO of The Riggs National Bank of Maryland.
Theodore J. Georgelas
Mr. Georgelas is the Managing Director of the Georgelas Group Holdings, LLC. He has been a director of the Company since 1990, and was the former Chairman of the Board of Alpha FinancialBank. He is also a former Chairman of the Board of Sector Communications.
Mr. Georgelas has spent his entire 40-year career heading a multi-national real estate development and construction company. During his business career, he has expanded from a spot builder of custom homes to a multi-faceted developer of commercial, industrial, retail and residential properties with primary geographic emphasis in the Mid-Atlantic states of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia. He has a broad range of experience in structuring financial transactions and legal documentation.
Patrice A. Harris, MD, MA, FAPA
Dr. Harris is is a practicing psychiatrist trained in child/adolescent and forensic psychiatry and the immediate past president of the American Medical Association (AMA), the largest association of physicians and medical students in the U.S.
Becoming the 174th AMA President in June 2019, Dr. Harris was the first African American woman to hold that position within the organization. She has served on the AMA Board of Trustees since 2011 and is the chair of the AMA Opioid Task Force. Apart from the AMA, she has also held leadership positions with the American Psychiatric Association (APA), the Medical Association of Georgia, The Big Cities Health Coalition, and the Georgia Psychiatric Physicians Association. She was also the founding president of the Georgia Psychiatry Political Action Committee.
J. Paul McNamara
Mr. McNamara is the Chairman of Potomac Capital Advisors, a privately held real estate investment company which advises two real estate partnerships. He has been a director of the Company since 2003, and former Vice Chairman of the Board of Alpha FinancialBank.
Mr. McNamara has spent over 30 years in the banking industry. He was the President and Chief Operating Officer of Sequoia Bancshares for 15 years. Prior to Sequoia, Mr. McNamara worked for Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company for three years and the National Bank of Washington for 12 years, where he held several senior management positions. He has gained valuable insight through his banking experience in senior management positions into retail banking, commercial banking, bank operations and systems. He brings this extensive knowledge of the banking industry to his role as a director of the Company, Chairman of the Governance and Nominating Committee, and as a member of the Executive, Compensation and Risk Committees.
Mark R. Nesselroad
Mr. Nesselroad is the Chief Executive Officer of Glenmark Holding Limited Liability Company, a real estate development company. He has been a director of the Company since 2011.
Prior to serving on Alpha Financial’s Board, Mr. Nesselroad served on Centra Financial Holdings, Inc.’s, Board of Directors from 2003 to July of 2011. He was a member of Centra’s Audit, Executive, Compensation and Finance Committees. He is a real estate developer in one of Alpha Financial’s key markets. He formerly served on the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Housing Development Fund and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the West Virginia Alpha FinancialHealth System as well as Mylan Park Foundation, Inc. He is currently the Chairman of the Risk Committee and a member of the Governance and Nominating, Executive, and Compensation Committees.

Albert H. Small, Jr.
Mr. Small is the Founder and President of Renaissance Centro, a nationally recognized real estate development firm, specializing in residential, commercial and hotel development. He joined the Alpha FinancialBankshares Board of Directors in 2018.
Mr. Small is also the Founder of the former Renaissance Housing Corp., one of Washington, D.C.’s most highly recognized luxury home builder and high-rise tower developer. He is a well-known business and community member in the Washington, D.C. area and brings significant knowledge of commercial real estate development and management in a key geographic market of Alpha Financial. He is a board member of Tulane University, director of Griffin Land & Nurseries, active in Young Presidents' Organization and Urban Land Institute, as well as civic boards and philanthropic organizations.
Mary K. Weddle, CPA
Ms. Weddle is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a former Executive Vice President of The Long & Foster Companies. She has been a director of the Company since 2004, and is also a director of Alpha FinancialBank.
Ms. Weddle has spent her career in real estate and related financial services. For over 20 years, she was in management and leadership roles in the real estate industry. Her former employer, The Long & Foster Companies, is the nation’s largest privately-held real estate company. In her most recent position as Executive Vice President and head of Operations, which she held for almost 15 years, she skillfully brought together a team responsible for a wide variety of diverse activities, such as legal, marketing, information technology, human resources, and accounting. Her expertise as head of Operations covered strategic planning, as well as the design and implementation of efficient systems and processes for distribution to thousands of internal and external users. She also understands customer service and consumer behavior. She brings this broad and relevant experience to her role as a director of the Company and as a member of the Risk and Audit Committees, where she has served as a financial expert for many years.
Gary G. White
Mr. White is the President of Gilbert Development, Inc. and the Principal of JRW, LLC, a consulting firm. He is the former Interim President of Marshall University, the former President and Chief Operating Officer of International Resource Partners LP and the former President and Chief Executive Officer of International Industries, Inc. He is also the former President and Chief Executive Officer of the West Virginia Coal Association. He has been a director of the Company since 2008.
Mr. White has served in several senior management positions in the coal industry for over 40 years. He also has more than 20 years of executive level experience with nonprofit entities which provides him with a broad perspective on business operations. He has been a past director of another publicly traded banking company. He brings this expertise in corporate management to his role as a director of the Company and as a member of the Audit, Executive, Compensation and Governance and Nominating Committees.
P. Clinton Winter
Mr. Winter is the President of Bray & Oakley Insurance Agency, Inc. He has been a director of the Company since 1996.
Mr. Winter has spent over 35 years working in the insurance and financial services industry. His experience as President of Bray & Oakley Insurance Agency, as well as a past chairperson of an Audit Committee of an acquired banking, has provided him with significant financial experience. He also served on the Executive Committee and was the chairperson of the Compensation Committee for this acquired banking company. Through his long experience with the insurance and financial industries, he possesses expertise in financial and risk management matters as well as business development and marketing. He brings this knowledge to his role as a director of the Company, the Chairman of the Compensation Committee and as a member of the Executive, Audit and Governance and Nominating Committees. He also serves as the Lead Director of the independent directors of the Board.
